I was eight when I was last confined in a hospital. I don’t really like to stay long in hospitals -one of the many reasons I didn’t go to med school. I was having on and off fever for the last few weeks and I thought I could manage but I was wrong. I finally admitted that I needed to see a doctor. My temperature was 39.5.
One more thing, I don’t like to be inserted with an IV needle but what can do? I needed the dextrose. Good thing Siena was there. My temperature decreased to 38.5 and though I was drowsy, I couldn’t resist to take a few shots on my pitiful condition using my phone before I closed my eyes. The doctor and his assistant came in a few minutes after I woke up with the result of the tests. He told me that I had type A influenza though he couldn’t tell exactly if it was H1N1 or H5N1. More tests were needed which could last for five days and it could be too late by then so he must give me an antivirus right away.
I was pretty much awake when I heard him said “it could be too late” and asked him if the virus was deadly. He was hesitant to give me an answer which was weird but I didn’t ask him again. Well, I thought my condition wasn’t really a joke. Thank God many prayed.
I also thank God for my friends who came. It was really sweet. I also texted my parents, aunt and grandmother. They called and were so worried but there was one thing that connected us - PRAYER.
My recovery was really fast. My fever was gone on the second day but the doctor said I should stay for another night. Surprisingly, I didn’t feel suffocated. My room was very comfortable, clean and with wifi though only Siena was able to connect. I only got updates from facebook and gmail using my phone. The nurses were so friendly and kind as well, particularly the prettiest. She would stay a little longer to have a chat with me or with Siena. I also liked the food though I always had porridge during breakfast.
I went home past 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 5th of August and found my room clean and with a basket of flowers from my landlady. I couldn’t thank her enough. Above all, I thank God for his healing and for using people to be HIS HANDS and FEET to care for me. Thanks a lot!
